I have Radeon Mobility x1600 and had the same problems with freezing.
After installing kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.29.2/ and all freezes with compositing "on" are gone.
It is working.

I can also confirm that the PPA packages fix the problem. I suppose that
the next thing to do is to find what fixed the problem and backport the
patch into Jaunty's mesa version. Let us know if you want us to try out
any test packages.
PS, the PPA keys can be added using:
sudo apt-key adv --recv-k
I meant that if this problem shows up particularly using one document to
include that document that I show the developers the issue.

I have the same problem with my Compal IFL90 with an Nvidia 8600 VGA
card. It freezes on random occasions.It is then impossible to ping the
machine or to SSH to it. It is also impossible to switch to a local text
console. The only solution is to use the power button.

I can confirm this. This is annoying if you're spending a lot of time

I can confirm this alos, Kubuntu 9.04, amarok 2.0.2. At them moment I am
listening to an album of the collection, mp3, and it happens about every

Cannot install any meta packages such as kubuntu-restrict-extras,

to install the package and clicking 'OK', kpackagekit closes without any

to ext4 and zero-length files (http://thunk.org/tytso/blog/2009/03/12

When a file is created in an eCryptfs mount, we go ahead and create the
file in the lower filesystem
I'll proceed presuming that you want your SB Live to be the default card
always, and we'll call that hw:0 for alsa-kernel and alsa-lib.

I have very similar issue. The firefox can hang the system completely
(no caps-lock and no sysreq-b). Mouse is usually also frozen (but not
allways). It seems that it is triggered by larger pages. I'm using

I also have this problem with Ubuntu 9.04 (not in 8.10). My graphic card is ATI
MOBILITY RADEON 9200 32MB (a bit old but it worked before!) and open source
driver. Maximizing windows is slow and CPU consuming.
