I can't do that as it's not just kde freezing, but the whole system. I
can't ssh or ping into this computer when this happens. Is there any
other way to get the information you need? May be there's a way for
kubuntu to put that information automatically into a logfile before it

The system freezes whenever I turn on compositing, with either EXA or
XAA.

The upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04 stopped with 3 minutes remaining. I could
not do anything in the upgrade so tried restart could not restart Ubuntu
GUI (just a brown screen with no icons). I am new to Ubuntu and had no
idea what to do but somehow got to a terminal screen and found a repair
menu.
This makes installing Eclipse for portable development on my netbook a
no-go. I don't NEED the Eclipse source and the JDT and CDT and PDE and
all the other crap that I'm forced to install.
I just want eclipse and a few specific plugins. Nothing more.

I've just tried using EXA accel instead of UXA with the latest PPA
drivers :
- glxgears reports 550-590 FPS with EXA where it would report about 230
FPS with UXA.
- ppracer is smooth and fun with 25-30 FPS with EXA where it would be 3
to 5 FPS with UXA.
- I haven't yet had time to investigate if
now with the final release of jaunty the bug seems fixed. at least when
i tried today it didn't crash again.

I got the same problem when upgrading 8.10 --> 9.04
arch: 32bit Intel
Regular Ubuntu install.
I had Firefox running at the time. Could that have locked some of the
files that needed writing?

To recap, this is an issue with the libsqlite3 included in Jaunty. All
EPG events/scheduled recording persistence is done in a new separate
thread (Save Thread). The save thread is called every minute and on

There are some changes in the xorg.conf now since under jaunty from time to
time internal input devices are not recognized.
As the bug makes it impossible to switch to a console or to login i can't send
you the actual Xorg.0.log

Sitting in front of the Vostro 1310 again: Upgraded to Jaunty. Still got
this nasty bug. using the line
driver "vesa" is a workaround but does nasty things to videoplayback and
there is no 3d accel. :-(

Hello,
Confirming this on laptop Acer Aspire One 115 running on fresh Jaunty
install. Volume/brightness control shortcut keys on keyboard (FN+arrow
keys) use to work with very slow autorepeat. On Intrepid this was
working correctly. I am attaching the requested HAL debug files.
