I can confirm this issue and that turning off desktop effects works
round the issue.
I ran into the issue after making a machine headless and moving it so
had to disable desktop effects in the terminal. Todo this you use the
two commands below then restart.

I am also getting this (absurdly loud) BEEP with a dell D620 with a fully
patched fresh install of 9.04 (final release). This occurs only during system
shut-down. The command

I encountered this problem after upgrading to 9.04.
I upgraded my 2 computers. On one of them flash works fine - on this computer
Kubuntu was installed from CD.
The second computer was upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04.

Doesn't work under jaunty final, connection drops after a while and
"iwconfig wlan0 rate 5.5M fixed" does seem to work some time but then
