I did a "aptitude purge tracker", removed all ~user tracker config files
and did a clean re-install. After that changes of the status of the

I experience exactly the same behaviour using a notebook with a SiS network
card. The problem only occurs in our corporate network using the wired network.
Wireless works fine.

detect (in a programmatic way) what kernel is suitable for what
/proc/cpuinfo - i.e. what cpu family/model/model name or flags to map to
what kernel.
I want to avoid switching users to a kernel that won't boot afterwards.
