Yes, making the code look like this, completely resolves this
segmentation fault problem:
GLUT.glutInit(sys.argv)
GLUT.glutCreateWindow('foobar') # required to be a line before
glutInitDisplay
GLUT.glutInitDisplayMode(GLUT.GLUT_RGBA | GLUT.GLUT_DOUBLE)
