I had the same problem (running 1.5.0#2ubuntu6:), and by accident found
the reason
* I started firefox from eclipse running as root and shut my system down
without exiting the browser
* the problem happens, whenever you start firefox as user - not root
* to fix the problem start firefox as ro
I quit using Kopete, since that's how the problem appeared in the
first place. Since then I haven't had any problems.

This is a bit mystifying, because as far as I can see the parser *does*
honour tabs as you would expect. It just uses strtoul() on the whole
line and thus stops at the first character that isn't part of a number.

Have suddenly got rounding bug mentioned here, on Linux Mint based upon
Ubuntu 8.04. gcalctool is version 5.22.3
example: 1583.44-1291.19=292.2
Original complainant's example of division calculates correctly,
however.
I have tried neutralising(renaming to .old) the user's xml file in
~/.gconf/ap
