Looking at the patch, doesn't it only check for actions when starting
up? What happens in the notification daemon was changed after startup?
Perhaps killing notify-osd and starting notification-daemon or vice
versa.

Not only is it showing a weak signal, it is now dropping the connection
randomly, and when there is a connection, it is extremely inefficient.
Pinging the router, it drops about 22% of the packets. Ping times go op
to 40 seconds (not milliseconds! but seconds). So there is obviously
something fishy

I too have this problem when running the live CD. Pretty much the same
as your setup. ntfs as the first partition and a range of others, some
ext4, one other ext3.
Testing now to see if I go straight to 'Install on the boot menu instead
of 'run without changing settings...'

I now have the same issue, Updated from 8.10 ( sound working ) to 9.04.
All packages are latest.
Alsa mixer shows the channels are 100.
Under sound preferences I have no sound from any Test, and when I click
the problem was resolved in later versions of Ubuntu. I'm with Intrepid
64 bits and the problem doesn't exist anymore.

I tried that also and it was exactly the same.
IIRC I finally got it to install by only selecting the one partition as
/ and not also selecting the boot partition, then manually moving kernel
to the boot partition and editing /etc/fstab.

BTW: The sivp 0.5.0 package has a build dependecy on scilab-doc (>= 5.0).
So scilab has to be in jaunty before this package can be built.
