I've just tried this on another PC here - I thought it still had Hardy
x64, but it turns out to be Intrepid x64 too.
A new install of Hugin from the PPA, and it works with the two test
images here.
The only obvious difference I can think of is that this is a AMD Athlon
64 machine whereas the one
FWIW, I switched to Twinview and (obviously) the problem hasn't
reoccurred. I had an aversion to Twinview in the past (based on
instability last time I tried it, years ago, I think) but it's stable
(and, bonus, gives me full KDE4 bling, which xinerama was somehow
blocking.)

Further report confirming that as of Jaunty Alpha 3 (upgraded from Alpha
2 directly rather than from the liveCD) things are good for this bug on
my HP/Compaq F763NR laptop (with MCP67 rev a2 chipset). Currently
running Alpha4 and it's still good, and the Alpha4 CD boots OK. I'm

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils
It's very easy to do:
$ sudo apt-get remove ecryptfs-utils
In Ubuntu jaunty, if your account is set up with an encrypted home
directory, this will make it impossible (okay, very, very difficult) to
even log in to your system.
The ecryptf
The -12 kernel will just be back to old behaviour. It has been taken a while to
get through but doesn't contain any fixes to the r8169 driver. I am in the
progress of finalizing the next -proposed upload which will then have the
updated driver.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be drop
For completion I just tested with the "old" xkb input driver. There, at
least, the key codes, which are grabbed by the patch, are o.k. But the
functionality is not as expected:
If I boot and start xfce then I can only use the Mute key to mute the
mixer, but not unmute it. After I either the VolUp
