nvidia-glx-180 is now in Jaunty, which fixes the problem. Due to the
binary nature of nvidia drivers, a fix cannot be provided for -177, so
I'm marking it as Won't Fix. Alberto Milone says that 180.08-0ubuntu1
will work on Intrepid, and is planned to be introduced to intrepid-
backports.

Same problem experienced in 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1 on 8.04. The problem most
definitely exists with vertical gradients too.
Has anybody discovered any workaround *at all* for this problem, bar
removing all gradients? I'm in desperate need of a clean document
conversion, and can find no way at all to a
tentatively marking as SRU candidate. waiting for confirm on last
question.

Because you didn't really respond to the question, the status should be
"incomplete" still. But I tried and I couldn't repro, so I guess this
could be set to Invalid.
I'm attaching a screen shot, made on Intrepid amd64, emacs22-gtk. If I
understand your description of the problem, I'm not seeing
