Sorry for any delay, I have just returned from holiday.
I have recreated the original problem by inserting a CD burnt using
Brasero on Hardy 8.04. When the disc is inserted I get the message that
it is unable to mount, however 2 minutes later it will appear mounted on
the desktop and all the files
I had a nVidia 8500 GT that works 'out of the box' in a native installation of
intrepid.
But I had to upgrade from Hardy and now I only managed to log in whit Vesa
driver (wrong resolution).
What can I do?
Thank you for helping me

I just updated the kernel to version 2.6.27-10. In my case (Dell
Inspiron 1520, Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG, driver iwl3945), the problem
seems to be solved (no more kernel panic after random time).

Where I had microphone but no video, after compiling new driver I now
have video but no microphone. This is back to the situation I had under
Hardy 8.04.
Does anyone have both video and microphone working on their VX1000 ?
