The sound recording (capture) in Kubuntu 8.10 amd64 on Nvidia MCP61 isn't
working.
The same computer with kde3 Kubuntu 8.04 i386 on other disk is working fine
using voip applications.
I tried to use kde software and gnome "Sound recorder" tool but nothing is

I have the same issue here, VLC was installed prior to 8.04 (probably on
Gutsy or Feisty). When I noticed vlc was not installed properly (that is
had generic icon in menu) so attempted to reinstall had the above issue.
Then uninstalled vlc and plugins (pulse and esd), then re-installed and
the bug

[Intrepid] OOo crashes when trying to create a new document from Templates a
LaToune, thanks for filing the bug report. Unfortunately unless you can
reproduce this bug with a driver supported by Ubuntu, ie in the official
ubuntu repositories, there's not much the devs can do to help.

Same thing happened to me today. Dell Vostro 1200 laptop with Ubuntu
8.10, which I upgraded from Hardy.
At the time, GDM was running but my Gnome\Openbox session wasn't logged
in. I did have rtorrent running inside a screen, which I'd started via
ssh, detached and logged off the ssh session.

I have the same problem dating back to when I first installed 8.04 using
Wubi. I hoped it would be fixed by upgrading to 8.10 but no such luck.
Does anyone have instructions for recreating the swap.disk file? Should

After further investigation in the memtest86+ package, I discovered the
bug affecting me has already been fixed.
The update-grub command run during my upgrade process was done by the
old package after it was removed (by the postrm file). The new

I said a few comments back that the the solution from thinkwiki worked
for a while and then stopped working, but it now looks more complicated
than that. Middle button scrolling seems to come and go. I'm not yet
sure what triggers this, but I think it might have something to do with
suspend-resume

The discinfo was grabbed from cddb well, then the musicbrainz message
appears. When tryin to upload the info, there was a problem with the
sever reported. There is non configuration to clear this up. Version is

Got exactly the same problem Benjamin Kay has but on a i686 machine
(Inspiron 6400), although I succeeded in remapping the "Play/Pause"
button to actually Play/Pause : You've got to go to the Global Shortcuts
options in Amarok, remove the shortcut XF86AudioPlay mapped to "Play",

There has been a regression here in 8.10. While in previous versions of
Ubuntu toshset could be used relatively easily to turn bluetooth on and
off, it no longer works.
This has been documented in other places, eg bug 269831 - the toshiba
and toshiba_acpi modules are no longer provided.

I did some more testing today.
It is working almost now. It's a bit tricky to explain.
One big problem was caused by compiz.
Without compiz, I could configure a dualscreen,
that worked almost, but 256 pixel in horizontal direction on
the Mac screen were still cloned (two mouse pointers, ...)
I know this doesn't fix the issue but I opened a bug that was marked as
duplicated where I explained what happened in Intrepid:
