dci-Japan, this also fixed my issue.
For others, I had the same symptoms as dci-Japan, I had 2GB of RAM in my
box (all 512MB pieces), I removed all but one and now I am enjoying my
installation of Ubuntu 8.10.

Well, it happened again, and after reboot I tailed a few log files and
saw nothing too indicative (to me), so I plan B'd it and copied all the
log files with modification times around the lock up. They're tarred,
bzipped, and attached.

I am working with Ubuntu 8.10 but have no system sound and also no sound when I
play a video and Flash.
Some video players crash because the can not find a sound plugin.
When I close Pulse audio I can play a video with some players (with sound) and
play music with only Gxin
It's been more than a month now since the previous comment and this
problem is still not resolved as far as I can tell. I'm running a fresh
install of Ubuntu Hardy 64 and need sound on the machine. I do not want
to upgrade to Intrepid since I need the Ubuntu LTS version in this
instance.

disabled.
Then, I enabled the restricted driver and I still have the same problem, I

I also am experiencing this particular issue. I am running a Core2Duo
system, 1GB RAM, compiz, and multiple desktops.
The system seems to run flawlessly during the day, and that includes
some periods of when its just sitting idle. However, when I go to bed at
night, I shut off the monitor to avoid

reloaded the old one then did upgrades, haven't had chance to work on it
since. Have been changing granddaughters computer to Ubuntu 8.10 from
windows. spending spare time on it to make sure it works for her when I

This does not work for me either in a Toshiba Tecra M9.
Before switching to intrepid I always had bluetooth disabled by default
and now I'm not able to turn it on since toshset also does not work.

Like Greg, I suffered from this problem on Hardy and continue to be
affected on Intrepid.
I'm running kernel 2.6.27-7 and xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.4.1 on a Mac
mini with Intel 945GM graphics. I still get jitters, eventually

hello, just updating my original bug report.
i now have bluetooth working under kubuntu intrepid (8.10) i can pair
devices and move files between them, and so far i havent run into any
problems.
however im not using the kde bluetooth packages, i have been trying to
get it to work for a while and
@Bart: thanx for your help. this seems a good solution and i can confirm
it works on my laptop.
so if any ubuntu dev should read this and feels bored ;) please provide
an update of acpi-support with Bart's corrections to those scripts. so
we would have this issue solved under intrepid by default a
