This is when installing the Kubuntu 8.10 64Bit version on a x_64 system.
After selecting the language & timezone, the installer attempts to start
the disk partitioning tool and soon reports a message claiming that my
physical disk is large. Then I select 'OK' and it hangs fore

Just upgraded my box to 8.10- absolutely the same problem.
I connected zyxel modem to com port and I see that it's data lamp blinks when I
type something in minicom or gtkterm, or it blinks more on command with
response, but I get nothing from modem!

Just tested this with network-manager 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1.
The settings do not work until you restart the network connection
(understandably). After restarting the connection, ifconfig showed the
custom MTU values. I haven't tested if this persists after a reboot.

I have a similar thing here. I have 2 machines equipped with SATA DVD drives
and swapped the DVD drives (both Pioneer). When I use the older DVR 212
in the machine with the Asus P5N-E Sli board (NVidia 650i), I can boot into the
live CD
(Ubuntu 8.10).

Just wanted to add a "me, too". I have the same problems as mentioned
above. No problems at all with 8.04, but nothing better than 800x600
with nv drivers and a 2px thick line with 17x drivers. :-(

Now i really don`t know whats going on but i just tried to install 8.04 LTS
and try to upgrade but Hardy is doing the same thing and only showing one drive
without any partitions . Must be something to do with my set up so scrap my
input on this.

to missing package name searching (though then I didn't know, package

I have a similar problem with intrepid 64 and hardy 64.
Before the installation, the computer had 2 disks of 500 GB, and the
installation of hardy 64 working successfully.
We have replaced the primary disk with a 1 TB disk and the installation
quit with ubiquity error report.

My Bluetooth mouse didn't work in Hardy but does in Intrepid (have been
running for a month on Beta release and now RC) - one small glitch (not
sure if it's been fixed now) but sometimes when the mouse failed to
connect it had to be cleared from the bluetooth list and re-added, now
works fine :-)
It looks a lot better, but not great. When I run it in a window without
compiz activated, it is just fine - smoth animation, CPU consumtion
around 30%. With compiz, the planet disappears after a few seconds and

Confirming on Dell Vostro 1000: Fn+up/down 'steals' keyboard input.
The "fix" for me was to use the magic SysRq key to reset the keyboard
from a virtual terminal - alt+prtscr+r - I don't know if it's the VT
switching or the magic keycombo that fixes it, but this is clearly an
input layer bug.

I downloaded Ubuntu 8.10, both 32bit and 64bit versions, and I burned
the ISO images on two separate CDs then I tried to boot into the demo
mode from these CDs. After about a minute of loading the OS, it ends up
with a black screen displaying some error messages, as
Easymp3gain is a frontend to mp3gain, vorbisgain and aacgain. Mp3gain
and vorbis gain are available in ubuntu, so easymp3gain could be
included as well (it seems to be released under the GPL).

This is still a problem when trying to upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid, meaning
that a lot of non English speaking people can't do the upgrade!
However it can be worked around by setting system language to English.
