Quick comment from a Mandriva user... you may want to just turn off alsa
routing via pulseaudio - this did the trick for me.

Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 5 i386 (2.6.27-2):
10 boot/shutdown cycles (using the LiveCD) have led to 2 hangs on
shutdown. The screen just turns black and the machine stops responding.
No HDD partition was mounted and no network interface was up prior to

I think google’s browser Chrome would have an EULA as well, so it would not be

This is an Acer laptop Aspire 1640. I normally connect to internet through
wireless. This time I plugged int the Ethernet cable and I had internet. No
ping to the Gateway, no ping to www.google. I don't use any firewall.

Claudiu: if you are having trouble with gstreamer-properties AND cheese,
then its not a cheese problem; its a gstreamer problem. Cheese relies
upon gstreamer for its connection to the webcam.So, I think this bug
should be under gstreamer, not cheese. Ill change it, but feel free to

Perhaps for the home user it is acceptable to just click some EULA that isn't
legally upholding anyway.
But this destroys Ubuntu for corporate usage. Every application that is offered
to the users and that ships with a EULA will need that EULA to be verified by
