It sounds to me less like xorg and more like usplash/framebuffer. Given
you describe the screen as black with progress bar this is likely to be
the case.

No. I'm working on isolating the problem. It is caused by an interaction
but the issue is likely to be in xulrunner. I should have the solution
and a fix later today.

Controling the birghtness with FN + F8 and FN + F9 is working again in
Intrepid using the 2.6.27-2.3 kernel. However, FN + F8 still produces
unknown keycodes; a minor annoyance.
Output of showkey -s:
FN + F8: no output
FN + F9: 0xe0 0x6f 0xe0 0xef
Xev output:
FN + F8: no output
FN + F9: 120 NoSym

When I try so move the selection box over a stamp (created using review tool),
the stamp shrinks and deforms. If this bug is confirmed, could somebody please
submit it to bugs.kde.org, I would do so myself but I don't have an account
