In fact I think there are two distinct problems for me:
- before 1ubuntu2, screen was flickering, with whole parts of the display
moving (background, etc.) and mouse was flipping
- with 1ubuntu2, only the mouse shows the weird behaviour

Thanks for the reply, a whole year has gone past and I had forgotten all

Same as 'PETIT Aymeric' here...
Just upgraded a server from dapper to hardy, after which the /backup couldn't
be mounted... same device-mapper errors.
After removing evms and a reboot, it worked again.

I'm not sure why but after few days the bug has returned. I did update
from apt-get all the latest changes. Perhaps enabling "nvidia" 3rd party
caused the regression. Just letting everyone know, the bug has again
reared its ugly head.
