I was just about to report it, because now i'm able to reproduce this.
This bug happens when you have multiple gnome-terminal's opened. And
*if* you close one *window* (and not exit the shell), and afterwards you
change a profile setting... then the crash happens.

I have got HP 550 laptop and the same bug (kernel panic after close/open
the lid) with ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" and kernel 2.6.24-19-generic.
When I set boot option acpi=off it works fine. But acpi=off option is
not good solution.

I have also experienced this bug in my recent installation of Ubuntu
8.10 Alpha 4. Similarly, I was installing over the top of my previous
Ubuntu install (ext3) and when I selected the "Edit partition" button,
the "partition size" numerical box was defaulted to the "used space"
amount of the partit
I uninstalled glade-gnome-3 and glade-gnome-3-dbgsym and this error
continues happening. I installed libgtk2.0-0-dbgsym and I attach the new
stacktrace.

This is an actual bug in Celestia, not Ubuntu.
I found on my Slackware system, that I could crash Celestia by slowing
time down to around 1e-12 (as an aside the top left time rate shows up
peculair things too). It appears to be a maths overflow of type double.
