I've managed to get the card detected, however not in this kernel.
First I installed 2.6.24-18-386, with headers, and compiled the alsa-project
package with the following options
./configure --with-kernel=/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-18-386
--with-cards=intel8x0 --with-oss=yes
--with-moddir=/l
Note, the line should read

Also, I missed a step:

Reporting same issue here, installing the libgnomevfs2-extra library
(which had it's own dependency-- libsmbclient) fixed the problem. Fix
should simply be to make libgnomevfs2-extra (and its own) a dependency
for rhythmbox.

please recheck using the latest openjdk available in hardy-proposed. it
is
java version "1.6.0_0"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_0-b11)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_0-b11, mixed mode)
with this, eclipse runs fine on AMD64 so far. (without-
XX:CompileCommand=exclude,org/eclipse/
