These steps once worked in Ubuntu:
- open terminal
- type: sudo gconf-editor
- navigate to /apps/gnome-power-manager/locks
- disable lock_on_hibernate
- disable lock_on_suspend
Even with these two locks disabled, I still get asked for my password

Well, honestly I just gave up using internal optical units...when I need
it (very seldom) I just use my USB connected one, which works 100%.

When trying to install / run live CD of Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64 and i386, the
Ubuntu progress bar loads and completes successfully, but then shows a
blank black screen and does not progress any further.

Paul: the progress bar in Jockey is still work in progress. Now that you
have installed the driver from Nvidia's website there is little I can do
for you since the NVIDIA installer breaks the packages in Ubuntu (by
overwriting files and symlinks).
