The screen's brightness is automatically adjusted to maximum after each
reboot of the system. I am using a Dell Inspiron 640m. The problem did
not exist in Feisty Fawn. But after the decision to upgrade to Hardy
Heron, it has surfaced.
Please find attached updated debdiff. I have added build dependency on
default-jdk-builddep and runtime dependency on default-jre. I have also
added ant properties to compile code for target JVM 1.5.

I purged and reinstalled nvidia-glx-new as directed, and now the
resolution is correct again. Thanks for all the help! Sorry it took so
long for me to get back to this.
Now that I re-read your directions, I think I was supposed to type

I'm backtracking w/my last statement a bit. Looks like the 2.6.24-11
kernel doesn't exhibit these problems as well and on top of that I've
had zero problems (knock on wood) with the forcedeth driver and this
kernel. Yesterday I was able to reliably generate the kernel "Oops"
noted above AND crash
As far as I'm concerned this problem disappeared. The laptop (Lenovo
3000 C200) now runs on Ubuntu 8.04.

sudo mv /usr/sbin/vpnc /usr/sbin/vpnc2
sudo nano /usr/sbin/vpnc
Put this lines in file:

/usr/sbin/vpnc2 --dpd-idle 0 $*
sudo chmod +x /usr/sbin/vpnc
It is a similar solution, but don't hang kvpnc.

wireless-2.6.24.tar.bz2 from http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download,
unpacked, built, installed, and rebooted to bring up the new drivers.
The output of /sbin/modprobe -l iwl4965 confirms that the system found
the new drivers.
