the problem I had was the repo wanted to upgrade top the latest version,
even when I did "lock version" from Synaptic. Rather than using dpkg-
divert as was suggested above, I re-built the packages with the version:

I just upgraded all modules (so now running 2.6.24-18), and wireless
still doesn't work on my Dell D620. The panel applet (Network Manager)

I found a very simple temporary fix. After connecting, I just issue the
command:
sudo ifconfig ppp0 mtu 1000
I can then use my vpn connection without any problem. It does not hang
anymore and ifconfig tells me the mtu is really 1000. Hope it will be

I have a fresh hardy install. Actually I installed from a 7.10 CD and
immediately upgraded to 8.04
I followed the instructions to edit smb.conf and change "workgroup = localname"
to the local workgroup name. I then logged out and back in. The network file
browser shows the "windows network" icon

Is this a duplicate of bug 199005, Unmount is not possible on floppy
drives? Even though different storage is involved, both give an error
when using "Eject Volume" in Thunar.

Can you suggest how to autostart gdb with panel, but without a UI until
panel explodes ?
This problem happen very infrequently, so it is impractical to try to do
this manually.
