John, agreed it's better to leave Hardy alone.
As for Intrepid, this bug still exists. The solution is to either wait
for Firefox 3.0.1 (although I'm not sure it will include the fix), or
manually backport the changes as mentioned by Felix (and on the upstream
bug). Intrepid already has up-to-date

Confirming this bug and workaround suggested by Thomas Hirsch. Will

My freezes occured started in april, when I was doing an update of
software on my Fiesty, so these freezes came to me during april. Since
then I went over to Hardy and I am waiting for official patch to this

Boot computer, KDM starrts. I select GNOME as session type and in GNOME
i started a gnome-terminal where I typed:
sudo apt-get remove kdm
Got the question: "Do you want to shutdown KDM?", answered Yes (I was
going to remove KDM in apt-get, so it felt natural to shutdown KDM)

Well, maybe I misunderstand the package concept of launchpad. I didn't
manage to change this bug's affecting packages as intended above.
Anyway, the Ubuntu repos packages that are affected as far as I see it
are
