John, agreed it's better to leave Hardy alone. As for Intrepid, this bug still exists. The solution is to either wait for Firefox 3.0.1 (although I'm not sure it will include the fix), or manually backport the changes as mentioned by Felix (and on the upstream bug). Intrepid already has up-to-date alsa-lib files, so once bug #198453 is fixed (to set the proper .asoundrc), Flash will work correctly, and libflashsupport (see bug #192888) will no longer be a requirement to get PulseAudio output working.
