Proposed 2.6.24-18-generic works fine here (8.0.4_64).
I hope the update process can be improved in the future to avoid the
extra step for the VirtualBox module. It's no biggie, but the first time
I've ran into the issue, it was quite scary that a recommended update
broke an important application.

In this case, that's okay. I thought in the packaging guide is declared
that we have to split the packages for translations. But if this is
incorrect, your suggestion is great.

I tried to install Apple's Safari in Ubuntu using Wine. This dosen't work
neither with Ubuntu's Wine or with the Ubuntu packages from the Wine website.
The installer just exists and throws a "7Zip could not open file!" error.
