synaptic is just doing an upgrade
Try these to check:

[hardy] Starting up
Same problem over here. Dragging files from one nautilus window to
another (or to/from the desktop) crashes the system. This occurs with
Ubuntu 8.04 and the latest updates as of today (4. June 2008). However,
if I turn off Desktop Effects, the problem goes away. Is it linked to
Compiz or not?

upgraded over the network with the update GUI.

Letting virtualbox-ose-modules-generic or virtualbox-ose-
modules--generic have a dependency to the corresponding version
of linux-image-generic would hold back the kernel update until the
corresponding virtualbox modules are also available, right?

Nothing jumps out in the rest of your log files as the cause for the
filesystem getting remounted read-only. However, there have been a
large number of changes since Ubuntu 6.10 and the installer now handles
similar problems much better.
Have you tried or could you try the Ubuntu 8.04 CD and see

been merged into gnome-themes-extras. But e.g. there is no folder
/usr/share/themes/SphereCrystal inside gnome-themes-extras. In other

In the Network Servers location I can see several SFTP File Transfer
hosts. Some are Macs, some are other Ubuntu machines, some are Gentoo
machines, either advertised by their own a
sudo aptitude -d safe-upgrade
wants to install one package
sudo aptitude -d full-upgrade
wants to install four packages
I don't see the bsh/gcj/... packages listed in UpdateManager in the
console output for both.
Note that this is happening on my "unstable" VM which is tracking
Intrepid already.
