It happened again for me with the 2.6.24-18 update. This time i figured out what happened for me. The linux-restricted- modules-2.6.24-18-generic package was not installed since the linux- restricted-modules (meta)package was not installed on my machine. Sorry about that, but i can't understand why it was not installed in the first place?
