I've just tested and don't suffer the same issue. On the other hand I
have a new laptop and now possess only one NTFS-drive in addition to my
ext3 drives. I just tried it for the first time and gnome asks me for
the password and then mounts it. Unmounting and remounting work like a

I find it strange that so many people say there is no possible
workaround for their system. If you can stop the problem by applying
hdparm -B 255 (or 254) yourself, then the only remaining problem is to

It's unlikely that GRUB destroyed C:\boot. I won't say that it's impossible,
but usually GRUB touches your MBR, but not files on filesystems.
So can you remeber what you did when you first installed GRUB. Did you resize
the Vista partition? Where was GRUB installed to originally? hd0? Or hd0,0?

Ignore my previous comment about GDM no responding to a finger swipe.
The prompt changes after a user name is entered. It would be neat if
one did not have to provide a user name. Of course this assumes the
fingerprints are detailed enough so that they can provide unique
identity without a user
After having used the laptop with a projector, next boot gave me a much
larger screen than the LCD and any try to start the resolution switcher

Not that it does anything good but by adding the following lines to the
screen section,
Option "RandRRotation" "true"
Option "Rotate" "CW"
xorg does seem to manipulate the screen after restarting.

Firefox's performance for me has actually been getting worse and worse.
Now I'm having trouble with Epiphany as well now, which is
disconcerting... I'm doing a clean wipe on my 2nd partition to try this
over again. Hoorah for having your home dir on a separate partition...

Hardy has 6.8.0 as well, which should support X1250. Although, the
driver doesn't seem to list 1002,7942 as supported pci-id, so maybe
that's the problem here?

Since upgrading to Hardy, the cups issue is resolved. I have all the
cups settings back to system defaults and there is no mention of it in
top during photo printing. Unfortunately, gs still spikes to 88+% and
4x6 photo prints sit in que for 85 seconds. The ghostscript bug is
still open.
