On my notebook HP 530 using backport kill my kill switch, without
backport i was able to use the kill switch even if the led don't switch
(and wireless don work), but with the backport module i can't activate
the wifi so no way to test wifi conectivity.

I added the rt kernel as Jim March suggested, and it seems to have
worked for me. I haven't been able to see this kernel lockup. I may have
noticed something interesting about why my particular system was
hanging:

Tried the same on my Athlon 1600+ desktop system and the stick mounted
without problems.
On my Acer Travelmate C111 with Intel ULV the above error occured. Both
are freshly installed with Hardy 8.04 final yesterday and had no
problems on Gutsy.

We can't modify the code of Nvidia but we can always adapt the rest of
the code to the Nvidia driver.
Anyway that's so much a shame 'cos the rest of hardy is just great.

the nvidia driver on my generic kernel and then install the RT kernel
instead of enabling the nvidia driver when the machine was running on
the RT kernel.

Evolution. It manifests in exactly the same way: you can't get by the

One more thing, when I'm installing 8.04, I've left my previous 7.10's
/home partition without re-format, and I created exactly the same user's
account name as I've used in Gusty, I wonder could this problem caused
by the previous Gusty's config file under /home/user's folder?

I have the same thing; changes from display: :1.0 screen: 0 to display:
:0.0 screen: 0. I'm using a monitor connected to my laptop, maybe that
got something to do with it.
