Well, for the external monitor I can change resolutions now. However,
changing resolutions for the internal display still does not work,
because I cannot "un-clone" the displays (seperate them from each
other). Although "clone screens" is NOT checked, screens are always
cloned.

I did some other experimentations and now, I have a fully functional
fglrx driver.
Here's what fxglrxinfo reports now:
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon Xpress Series
OpenGL version string: 2.1.7412 Release
I'll explain what I did and what conclusion
This bug affects every laptop equipped with a radeon X1250.
To function properly, these card needs one of the following driver:
* newer ati driver than the one provided by Hardy
* radeonhd driver which is not avalaible with livecd
If one boots with Hardy LiveCD, X will fail to start, installing

I also installed these packages and notice no change in the version
number. However, everything continues to work, so I don't see any
problems with upgrading. And maybe it'll be worth it to get support for
the new xorg.conf in aticonfig.
