The stock installation of aptitude will try to install recommended
packages as hard dependencies. In the case of installing selinux this
results in ubuntu-standard being uninstalled (due to ubuntu-standard

I also ran Xorg7.4/1.3 on 2.6.22, fakekey still works.

apt doesn't seem to know about any migration-assistant package. It's my
understanding that migration-assistant is supposed to be invokable from
an existing installation, but I can't seem to find a way to do that.

Ahem. Same goes for build-dep. Also, note, apt-get doesn't support
such useful aptitude options as --with-recommends, which could be very
useful with source/build-dep.

Is there a chance that it will be fixed in future updates? It seems it
has not been fixed for a long time and continues as well in to ubuntu
hardy which is very bad. At least i experienced it in the hardy beta.

To install the drivers, remove linux-backport-modules-KERNEL_VERSION-
generic and check that /lib/modules/KERNEL_VERSION/updates does not
exist, so that you'll be sure to use the new drivers.

I am unable to install Ubuntu 7.10 in my D drive even after creating the
necessary space. The error message that I get is related to a microcode.
I can only use the CD to load Ubuntu in safe graphics mode which also
loads in low graphics mode.
It's not exactly a version conflict, since the update was correctly
installed (see the report again). The only bug was that update-manager
told me it was a non-Ubuntu, even though it evidently downloaded the
update from Ubuntu.
(However, the version numbers might have conflicted, causing the updat

the fix works on my 6510b. /proc/acpi/video/*/DOS is set to 7 and it
doesn't crash when I close the lid.

error "The playback of this movie requires a Microsoft Media Server
