've just tried to connect to the university wireless here at Purdue
which uses a hidden ESSID (WPA protection) with the native bcm43xx
module and it still doesn't connect automatically. It actually works
worse than the ndiswrapper+broadcom windows driver that I currently use.

update that you can now test the newer 2.6.24 kernels via the Hardy
Alpha LiveCD's. That way you don't have to manually update the kernel
by hand. It was only for the Hardy Alpha1 release where this wasn't the
case

the same bug? The nautilus bug 1) is known, the crash seems to be a
gnome-mount issue. The naming has been discussed upstream and the
properties tab is a gnome-mount thing

Some regressions when dealing with removable drives:
1) When inserting the drive it opens not one but two windows showing the
contents. Then gnome-mount crashes.
2) The media name is not matching the mount name I gave to the the
removable drive
You are apparently having a different problem. The bug here is that
compiz is running at 50fps instead of 60fps. It's not that much slower,
just annoying. If nvidia would not do crazy things with their driver
this problem would not exist.

i can confirm that this crash happens for me.
i have a workaround that "works for me"
1. disable starting gdm in the /etc/rcX.d/ scripts
2. reboot
3. computer will start in text-mode
4. login as your user
5. after login, start X via the startx command
this starts X and gnome but without gdm.

I had the same result as Mike just reported on my Averatek StepNote

I'm glad to hear things are now working. Per your last comment I'm
going to close this report. The kernel team most recently sync'd with
upstream's 2.6.24-rc8 kernel which probably explains where the fix
originated. I browsed through the changelog and the only xfs related
note I saw
