i can confirm that this crash happens for me.

i have a workaround that "works for me"

1. disable starting gdm in the /etc/rcX.d/ scripts
2. reboot
3. computer will start in text-mode
4. login as your user
5. after login, start X via the startx command

this starts X and gnome but without gdm.

for me this error happend when i was away from my computer so i am
assuming when the screen saver starts.

without gdm running, i can confirm that i left my computer and X didnt
crash.
