I also have this problem. Firefox is fine until I load up a google
spreadsheet, at which point the entire system crawls. Tabs take 2-3
seconds to switch back and forth, which makes it very unusable. When I
close the Google spreadsheet tab, the problem goes away and the system

The second hard disk makes a terrible noise while rebooting, but this

I think we should compare "alsa-driver" sources in "alsa-kernel/pci/hda" folder
- to see what has changed there between latest kernel of Ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10.
Especially "patch_conexant.c" file. It worked well in 7.04 before upgrade to
7.10.

my xorg.conf I had the 'i810' driver for my Toshiba A200, which has an
Intel 945GM chipset. I changed it to the 'intel' driver. The video board

The open command (like in Mac OS X) is missing.
For example, in Mac OS X the following line

I just tried to shutdown my box using the halt command under Ubuntu
Hardy : WOL is still not working on my box (I also verified that after a
boot/shutdown with Win XP WOL is always OK). Did you use special options
