X:

(Maybe you need to switch with ctrl-alt-F1 again now)

I just ran into the same problem (using Gutsy) and I know what the
problem is. A user can change the mount point in the context-menu of a
mounted disk by entering a different mount point, see screenshot. The
problem is that the user is led into a trap as it seems one has to enter
a full mount
I have somewhat the same error, though the search function does actually
find stuff... though the Places >> Search for Files... finds many more.

Today i noticed that my cpu usage was quite high (~30%) while doing
nothing cpu intensive. Top revealed that the process eating up the cpu
was actually ksoftirqd. After trying out somethings, I found out that
this is triggered when loading the cx8800 module with modprobe cx880

I just manually created the directory /lib/firmware/2.6.24-1-generic and copied
the firmware file over from 2.6.22. This fixed the wireless problem for me.

In new tests, i discover that this is the architecture who may be the problem :
- On i386 : no problems
- On AMD64 : crash
In fact, there is no differences between Kubuntu and the others *ubuntu
(The mistake is due to my virtual machines... who are in i386)

I can confirm this behaviour for Canon .CR2 files. I am experiencing the
exact same behaviour. Removing gnome-raw-thumbnailer fixes this
immediately..
