Here's the full problem.
If /var is made to be a separate partition, and therefore /var is an
empty directory on the root partition, mounting /var/run fails, which in
turns causes ifup lo to fail later because /var/run is now a directory
on the new /var partition and isn't wi
The first time it happened, I had used gparted to move the swap
partition forward, but I still don't know what might have caused it the
second time. Yes, I was awake and paying some attention, but something
strange happened. I don't even know enough about UUIDs to imagine what
causes them to change

I also have the same problem with the gutsy kubuntu install. I have
tried re-installing twice, with the same results.
My workaround is to de-select the libqt3-mt upgrade. Kubuntu seems to

Yes this bug is only on edubuntu Live. On the alternative cd the
install was flawless and on Ubuntu, Xubuntu there was no error.

I can also confirm this on 2 seperate Ubuntu Gutsy (64-bit) installs as
LTSP servers.
Since these are LTSP servers (and serve many clients), GDM is not a
factor in my equation (LTSP uses LDM instead, and the 100% CPU Nautilus
processes are from people logged into thin clients).

The error first occurred during the distribution upgrade process. After
the system rebooted, I opened a terminal and did a 'sudo apt-get
