PPS: While GOOM now works, there still is a significant delay upon
activating a GOOM visalization. The music playback may even stop for a
while. This is on an Intel Celeron 2.8 GHz PC with 2 GB RAM, so this

Confirmed here, my thunderbird started hanging after POP messages arrive when
using Tango Icons Theme on Thunderbird. The strange thing is, that it was
working fine for about 2 days, I installed this icons until yesterday.
I will be doing some tets to figure out why. BTW, as stated by JohnKaraha
Maybe if the issue with the GOOM visualization cannot be fixed, then a
good alternative would be to remove the GOOM entry from the Rhythmbox
visualization menu. libvisual-0.4-plugins might be a good alternative.

Hi,
i can agree to this. I have the same problem. After a few minutes of
working with effects, soffice.bin uses 100% of my CPU.
Perhabs it's because of my ATI Radeon Mobility 7500? Compiz works very
fine, but Impress effects are slowly and not smooth. I don't understand
it.
My system: Ubuntu 7.1
No SSHing into it when hangs, just checked today (that's not to say it
didn't hang from then till now).

PS: The OP mentioned Compitz. I don't think Compitz has anything to do
with it; for what it's worth, I have it disabled and I'm having the same
problem. I don't even think OpenGL is necessarily at fault -- OpenGL
works on my system, and I can use demanding OpenGL applications such as

We had the same problem while upgrading from edgy to feisty to gutsy. In
gutsy dist-upgrade we got the segfaults.
Our solution in quick notes from memory:
* We left out what was mentioned in the second post.
* Only installed libc6-xen with aptitude (accepted the proposed downgrade
solution).

usplash was working fine in previous releases going back to Warty.
Perhaps worse is that the default text mode has become 40x25 with the
bottom half cut off instead of the normal 80x25, if I press ctrl-alt-f1
to get to a text login.

I got it working by setting agp mode in the bios to 4 (8 did give worse
performance with glxgears and crashed with tremulous), set the AGP
apature size to 128 MB in the bios and added Option "AGPMode" "4" to
xorg.conf and set. According to lspci I've got a "VGA compatible
controller: ATI Technolog
I change my comment about this. I didn't experience this, but a friend
of mine who has also a Dell Dimension (but some months newer) doesn't

Hello,
The current vkeybd keyboard map gives you only an octave and a half,
because it uses only the two middle rows of the keyboard. I have created
a keyboard map which allows you to use the full three octaves. It also
starts from C on every line, which is nice, I think.
