Mario, could you not encourage users to install non official versions so
they don't screw up their system this way? The 2.4.0-rc3 is the current
upstream version, it's a stable version candidate and works usually
correctly. We are dependant of the upstream schedule there and can't
package a version

Asus K8N-E Deluxe). The modules 2.6.20 work fine, the 2.6.22-14 and the

import/output filters installed. It neither reads nor exports xls for example.

I agree with Matt, this problem does not seem to happen with the
nvidia/metacity combination. That doesn't mean that it is definitely a
compiz problem though - the "black windows" problem with earlier nvidia
drivers running out of video memory was only seen with beryl and nvidia.

This works for me, too. I think that a fix for this bug would just be
to make sure that the emacs22 package conflicts with python-mode.

without any trouible, without the splash screen missing.

Great idea, that way it works. So only the Test-Button is not working
the expected way.
However things are worse now: After enabeling xinerama-Mode via
displayconfig-gkt there is a reproducible way to freeze my laptop:

The i810 driver is old and no longer supported upstream. Can you try
with the "intel" driver to see if the symptoms persist please?
If it still crashes, can you send the Xorg log file in that
configuration.
