After booting from the 7.10 beta live CD, I see the desktop, but no
panels come up at all (not even after clicking the desktop as others
have mentioned). Ctrl-Alt+Backspace logs out and logs back in
automatically, then the panels show, but that obviously isn't acceptable
for the release.

games simultaneously on different X servers — e.g. I used to run Xgl
with Compiz on :0, and run Quake 3 at the same time on :1. I can also
have multiple users logged on with both running Compiz.

immediately after scanning (via scanimage, not Xsane), the slider freezes
making horrible loud noises, not unlike what Antti Miranto describes.

I have bcm43xx-based wlancard. i have the 2.6.22-12-generic kernel.
the restricted manager have install the correct firmware and the card will
work great. after an update of kernel the driver should not found the
firmware. the re
I think the problem is bcm43xx-fwcutter should save the firmware in an
other directory, independent from kernel.

Wait as I might, the flashing effect wont start... hence is was all a
vesa driver problem.
Now, how come vesa driver was selected this time on gutsy instead of
neomagic I still don't know.
The behavior is solved, the causation is still unknown.

Ok lets start with your bug, have you tried using a new profile? alot of
problems after upgrade are caused by profile corruption.
The info you recieved is correct however, there hasnt been any stop in
thunderbird devel and they are still pushing releases shortly after firefox
