I dug out the relevant test install and pidgin seems to work properly on
it now, so I can't reproduce this I'm afraid.

I suspect that the situation was that there was a copy of pidgin running
already but just without any windows open, in a state where asking for a
new copy of pidgin doesn't have any effect.  Is that possible ?

I'll see if I can reproduce it coherently during my ISO testing and if
so I'll file a proper bug.
