With today's update, there was an improvement. I tried to enable
"Normal effects" and got the message "Desktop effects could not be
enabled". This is much better than the surprising result from before
(see my Screenshot attachment), but the message was not particularly
helpful.

What I did when this happened was to find the packages with the
problem (they're downloaded in /var/cache/apt/archives) and install
them manually with "dpkg -i file.deb". Once you get to the point where
apt-get is updated, the normal process should work.

Hello! I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy, and I just realized an annoying fact:
When doing software updates which install a new version of the network
manager, the network connections are temporarily disconnected while the
network-manager is restart
This sounds like an upstream bug in the icon set you are using. I would
guess that it cannot find the right size icon and is therefor scaling
them from other sizes.

Thank you for your bug. Could you run gconf-editor and look at the
/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command key value? That looks like a
known firefox bug which is setting the wrong value to it. If you use
firefox does using "firefox %s" make it work correctly?

I'm using Feisty (amd64) with almost no problems now. I suffer sometimes
of lockups (hard) (not found yet why, but i thinks it's not related to
the motherboard). However i tried recently to boot a feisty live cd with
no luck and haven't investigated much. I will however test the new
ubuntu release
so what is the problem here? Does the nm-applet completely disappear? If
that happens is the NetworkManager process still running? Maybe it
crashed?

When creating an appointment in Evolution (using exchange plugin) it syncs back
to the exchange server fine and is visible in Outlook Web Access (OWA).
However it does not synchronize to Palm Treo 750v smartpho

Its just because dpkg_1.4.5ubuntu14_*.deb and dpkg_1.14.5ubuntu14_amd64.deb are
not the same ? (the first is 1.4.5, the second 1.14.5 ) and somebody forgot a
1. in the installer list ?

A more elegant solution would be to make the user a part of the
"icecast" group.
To do that, you can use the appropriate option in your desktop environment or
simply type :
usermod -a -G GROUP USER
or
gpasswd -a USER GROUP
