I have installed the new package but i still get

The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.

Nevermind my previous comments, it appears that the patch does in fact
work. Upon restart, I was able to play videos.
My hardware configuration includes the 945GM and I'm running the latest

I have the same issue on a new Dell Inspiron 6400 (UK). I tired the
i810 driver with the 915resolution fix, and then fn F8 works to switch -
but I get the same issues as bugs with that in that it dies after a few
times and machines needs hard reset.

Hmm. There are two problems here. One is that the syslog is chopped off
near the end (that's casper's fault for not disabling anacron hard
enough, and I've committed a fix), and the other is that I can't really
see the problem in partman.

I installed the "openoffice.org" package (and its dependencies) and seems that
this solved the problem.
(I think, that this is not default because it depends on "openoffice.org-base",
which is not used frequently.)
