I'm also observing this problem. Here, with a root-on-lvm-on-raid1
setup, these failures confuse the udev initialization sufficiently that
although the system boots, it fails to mount any filesystems other than
root, and things are generally confused later on.

If the ssl sub-directory in /etc/apache2 does not exist, and you try to
create the certificate, everything appears to have gone OK, but the file
is never written to disk.

I can confirm that this is busybox. I get segfaults when calling
'busybox mount -o move ...' for both /usr/lib/initramfs-
tools/bin/busybox and /bin/busybox (from the plain busybox package as
well as busybox-static).

I patched hub.c with this patch http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/8/2/438, and
problem went away.
Any other solution mention it this thread didn't helped.
