Ok. I don't know if the packaging guidelines allow this, but maybe it
should abort if there ist already a lircd.conf.dpkg-old. In the
meantime, I recreated my lircd.conf with irrecord, and my remote works

Sometimes, when I shutdown or reboot the computer, GRUB is loading a
long time and kernel is reporting errors on filesystem and won't boot. I
have to boot LiveCD and run reiserfsck on partition. It replays some

This problem has occurring because the automatic detection of LAN is
wrong.
To install the Ubuntu alternate you need CANCEL the automatic detection
of LAN and configure manually your lan, and PUT YOUR *NAME SERVER* (DNS)

This sounds like bug 64928, but in your case it boots fine - and does not halt
with "GRUB Error 16: Inconsistent filesystem structure".
The problem in bug 64928 is, that "savedefault" triggers problems with
grub/reiserfs. I've removed "savedefault" in my /boot/grub/menu.lst file. See

Yes, I did dpkg-reconfigure, during which process I gave a new root
password -- the same password I gave as root for mysql-server. But I
still get the same error message.

Joel Berger gave a nice little wrapper script in comment #45. For some
people this worked, for some people (like me, Canoscan lide 25, Feisty)
the scanning element would not always return to its starting position.
