Just for information : I did what Chris Halse Rogers said and it works.
1 - sudo apt-get remove banshee
2 - sudo rm -Rf /usr/lib/banshee/Banshee.Plugins
3 - sudo apt-get install banshee
The bad news is that I did it too fast, and I don't remember the data I
deleted... I think it was Banshee.Plug
Another solution is to set the "LinearAlloc" option in xorg.conf for the
i810 driver to something very big. If you check "man i810" it gives 8160
as a value for 1080p videos, i find that it is insufficient, crashing
even with 720p videos. At 16000 I haven't had any problems yet.

I studied the kern logs before and juste after the problem occured (see
attachment). All the suspend phases are strictly identical. The resume
sequences are a bit different, but nothing obvious (at least for me)
besides some slightly modified timing.

Well I have removed the "Roaming mode" has been deselected, there are no
proxy settings. The results are exactly the same, however I have noticed
another very weird thing: I can still connect to google but I cannot
connect to the router's admin page (I did not try that before but I

I can confirm this unresponsiveness in feisty under high load.
My system (laptop portege 2010 with 256MB RAM) also starts thrashing
without stopping after a few firefox (sometimes only 3 or 4) windows are
opened at the same time (e.g.a few slashdot pages), and ps reports
