Pertti,
The gnome-games package is a part of the default Ubuntu desktop. It's
installed automatically as part of the upgrade/install process. This
error is probably caused by a dependency problem. If you can attach the
logs from /var/log/dist-upgrade we'll have a better idea.

Making more tries, I have found the next:
The problem arise when I boot the laptop with the usb mouse pluged.
If I boot without plugin the mouse gnome boot properly, after I can plug the
mouse and all works properly.

I seem to have fixed the hanging problem by using the older kernel
instead of the one that comes with Feisty. In the boot menu, select
kernel 2.6.15-27-386 instead of 2.6-20-15-386 and firefox will not hang
while browsing pages with flash media (like YouTube).

Looks like the process was hanging at the point of formatting the partitions.
so i formatted root and swap partitions before i began the installation
procedure using gparted. Then at the time of installation, i did not choose
format the partitions.

My firefox has stopped crashing on that site. The only significant
change that I've made had been to remove a very old flash plugin that
was in my ~/.mozilla which meant that ff was using flash 7 and not the
newer flash 9. I was unaware of this old flash plugin lying around, I

As I said earlier, you can use the boot cd. But you will still need a small
fat32 partition for that. But no need for windows installation :)
You can use floppy too, but I don't think any laptop ships with floppies

I'm not an Ubuntu user, I use Sidux and came accross this page by
accident, but as they are both Debian and the symptoms are the same this
might work for a temporary fix:
sudo lsof | grep /dev/snd
This should just list artsd. Kill it and run your sound app straight
after.

I had the same problem on Feisty (upgraded from Edgy), but for me the
solution wasn't in the .local directory, but in the .config directory.
IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied:
'/home/frans/.config/menus/applications.menu'
so after
sudo chown -R : .config
Alacarte worked as advertised.

I have epiphany-browser 2.18.1-0ubunt1 and epiphany-extensions
2.18.1-0ubuntu1 under Ubuntu Feisty and it works in all websites ( as
far as I know) including google. What version of Epiphany do you have ?
