OK, so it seems that my previous comment was posted too fast. Disabling
USB mouse in BIOS *does* help. I have two separate options "USB mouse
support" and "USB keyboard support". Disabling both of them gives me
working keyboard (PS/2) and mouse (USB).

I have had this issue as well, and it is definitely a bug. Not
displaying an error message when there is an error is *COMPLETELY*

I have the same problem, since feisty. In edgy there was no such problem. The
machine is an Acer Aspire 1640 notebook. The requested outputs are attached in
one txt-file.
I've tried to turn off alsa before hibernating, and restarting alsa after

to set mode 34 to 1400 x 1050 @ 24 bpp, but x always starts in 640x480
