OK. I've installed Ubuntu 7.04 onto my laptop, and followed the above
reproduction instructions. The bug is still there. It's not as much of
an issue, since the floppy icon is now created on the desktop when media
is inserted, but still, I find it annoying that the custom-made icon
doesn't work.

I have exactly the same problem. I'm reviewing the logs in /var/log and I
don't find any significant error. The mouse works but the keyboard is totally
frozen. I'll try to find any aditional clue.

By default when this file is modified using Adept Manager "sources.list.save"
is created as a backup

Typo in check for Win in Kubuntu Sy
I installed Fiesty Fawn on this laptop (Compaq V3000) yesterday, sound
was fully working and sounded great. Could control sound levels with the
buttons on the laptop (volume up/down/mute buttons) with no

The issue appears to lie in kernel "kernel 2.6.20-15-generic". I booted
with kernel "kernel 2.6.17-11-generic" and the issues resolved. HALD
and ACPI loads fine once again.
The fix would be to load an older kernel image, or if you did an
upgrade, just set the default to the older kernel.

I've had a similar problem as well (ldconfig wasn't helping).
I've resolved the problem by moving aside
/usr/lib/firefox/components/compreg.dat. The file has been regenerated
by Firefox and everything is working as it should since then.
I am using edgy.
