I made backup on another computer, and installed from cd, since over the
internet would download 1Gb and my connection is not that well. Now it
reinstalls. Forst time stopped at 70% in basic system install, second
(after unplugging network cable after the network was dete

I have experienced *exactly* the same problem after update to 0.45.3.
Following your advice, I checked the file: ~/.update-manager/meta-
release and it was existing.
Then I simply try to delete this file and re-run update-manager
=> The "upgrade to Feisty" banner was back into the upgrade-manage
Sorry if I'm being thick here, but is it possible to use this patch with
the existing CD to allow the upgrade to proceed? I'd like to be able to
use the CD I downloaded but I'm not sure how to go about it.

I'd suggest that this problem (which I see on a laptop with an ipw3945, too) is
due to the missing information which wireless network should be joined.
On a wired NIC, you can simply run dhcp commands and get an IP (or not). On a
wireless NIC, one normally has to specify the SSID of the network.

Xorg changes can't affect your virtual terminals. If you could switch to
a virtual terminal (and it wasn't corrupt/completely black) but not type
then that suggests something more severe. If you were unable to type
within X though then yes that could be a xorg.conf

I've found out that the open source Ati drivers are quite certainly the
cause of these crashes. I changed the driver from "ati" to "vesa" to

I have the same problem, with a Pentium 4 Mobile CPU. After the message
"MP-BIOS bug 8254: timer not connected to IO-APIC"
Ubuntu starts normally, but tends to freeze unpredictably. With previuos
versions of ubuntu there wasn't any problem. The only workaround i've found is
to put "noapic" optio

I have exactly the same problem. Interestingly, I had the same problem
when I first installed Dapper, but it went away the first time I
updated, so presumably this problem was fixed in dapper. It never showed
up in Edgy. If anyone can figure out how it got fixed first time round,
and how it got unf
