OK so I noticed the "x overlay" thingy at the end of the debug output
log, then opened Rhythmbox > Plugins > Vizualisation, which was enabled.
I disabled it and Rhythmbox doesn't crash anymore, so the bug is with
this plugin itself. So it should either be fixed or disabled by default
before Feisty

dialog initially proposed to resize the partition to some non zero

Just a follow-up comment:
This is definitely gnome-related and not either X or ppracer.
Using the fluxbox window manager, running ppracer does not freeze the
system. Attempting to run ppracer in gnome freezes the system totally, and
even attempting to kill X from an ssh login to the machine fails

1. Put in CD or DVD in drive
2. Open it, play some video, music, copy some data
3. When finished with it, no one uses that CD (no open files in programms), I
eject it
4. Disc is ejected but message about "Unsafe media removal" appears
This message shouldn't appear for CD/DV

I get a similar error here but with a slightly different configuration:
Kubuntu Feisty (current) but with the fglrx ati driver from the
2.6.20-14 restricted package. The error messages on my system are in
German but they would translate roughly to what was stated here in the
