I have installed Herd 4 and the problem is solved. Probably, it is not a
bug. I think this bug report could be closed. Sorry, if you have spent
time on this 'false' problem.

Binary package hint: libpam-heimdal
pam heimdal reports the following error when attempting to log in:
credential verification failed: Cannot determine realm for host
This happens if the hostname of the system is not an fqdn (`hostname`
returns 'foo' rather than 'foo.example
I'm experiencing the same thing. I apt-get upgraded this morning and it
pulled the 2.6.17-11-server kernel. The previous kernel was
2.6.17-10-server, which worked fine. I rebooted and got a similar
problem as above. When I attempted to ssh into the box, I got a kernel
panic.
This is a Dell SC4
The ATI problem actually has a fix by adding:
Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,AUTO"
to your xorg.conf under the monitor options. Using this is supposed to
make the liveCD install a viable option for people experiencing the
problem.

I'm having this same difficulty. I haven't done the fix yet so I can
reproduce this bug at will.
I'm on a fresh install of Ubuntu 6.10 (booting 6.11) and Firefox 2.0.0.1
I have a fresh install of XP sans FF, I'll try an install and see if I
can verify that.
